Heavy Rain delayed because it "needs space"

Quantic Dream co-CEO, Guillaume de Fondaumiere told CVG that the key reason for Heavy Rain's delay from late 2009 to early 2010 was because the game needs "its own release window".

"The first and most important reason [for the delay] was the fact that I don't think that such an innovative game like Heavy Rain and a new franchise should be released at the end of the year in the crowded period when everyone's releasing there games," de Fondaumiere told CVG. Modern Warfare 2 immediately springs to mind.


"A game like Heavy Rain needs space, needs to be explained and shown. At the end of the year, people can't afford to buy all those games so we wanted to give Heavy Rain the chance to have its own release window, and for us to really talk about it so people really understand it."

Fondaumiere believes that HR will be a test bed for how ready the industry is for this sort of innovation.

"If Heavy Rain doesn't succeed it's going to have important implications for other developers and for ourselves - maybe people will think 'those innovative games don't work, games cannot really convey realistic emotions.' And they will continue to do the standard shooters and the like that we have been doing for however many years," he said.

Η σκηνοθεσία είναι απίστευτη. Τι να πω, ήμουν που ήμουν hyped, τώρα απλά δεν μπορώ να περιμένω. Οι λεπτομέρειες στα γραφικά φοβερές, οι λήψεις πάρα πολύ καλές, τα quick time events τέλεια (τουλάχιστον φαίνονται), detective story μυρίζει... Προφανώς και θα το πάρω με τη μία .

Θα είναι κρίμα αν δε δείξουν κάτι στην E3.
Θέλω πάρα πολύ να δω που το έχει πάει η Quantic Dream με το Heavy Rain, και δυστυχώς, απ’ όσα έχουμε διαβάσει και δει μέχρι στιγμής, δε μπορεί να βγει κανένα συμπέρασμα. Όταν με το καλό κυκλοφορήσει θα σκεφτώ πολύ σοβαρά την αγορά ενός PS3, αν βεβαία παρουσιαστεί η ευκαιρία.

Τερμάτισε το κάποια στιγμή πάντως, είναι αρκετά ενδιαφέρον τίτλος, αν και κάπου το σενάριο το χάνει τελείως.

Είχα δει μία συνέντευξη των developers και είχαν πει πως έχουν ως στόχο το 2009. Αν δεν δούμε τίποτα νέο στην Ε3 τότε μάλλον πάει για 2010. Ανυπομονώ να μάθω νέες πληροφορίες για το παιγνίδι. Το Fahrenheit ήταν εκπληκτικό και απ'όσα έχουν πει για το Heavy Rain, με βλέπω να το παίρνω day 1.

I'm really restricted to what I can say here, but I just wanted to get a couple chimes in about Heavy Rain. I've recently had the opportunity to get a glimpse of some new gameplay footage, and I was absolutely floored. Heavy Rain is so dynamic and alive, it'll blow your mind. No one I've spoken to can confirm if E3 2009 will see the same footage I saw yesterday, but I have done all I can to encourage them to show some of what they've shown me. We're talking physics, dynamic story-telling, insane graphical updates since E3 '08--it is an amazing game and a contender for Game of the Year.
