Tom Warren here (Senior Editor at The Verge). I posted this story at The Verge yesterday. I just wanted to clear up a few things and address some points I've seen posted elsewhere etc. The Xbox 720 leak was covered by The Verge at The Verge, not Polygon at The Verge. I know the temporary home can be confusing at times, but thought it was important to point that out.

As for how we check these types of stories. I have been reporting on Microsoft for around 12 years now. That's not to say I know everything about Microsoft and its processes, but I have a fairly good idea of what is and isn't an internal doc usually after the first few pages. This document in question is from August 2010, prior to iOS 4.2 (mentioned in the PPT notes) and when certain team members (mentioned in doc notes) were still at the company in engineering roles. The document references several employees by name and uses one of Microsoft's internal "CSG_Pres" PowerPoint templates (an early example of their Metro style PowerPoint templates that are used regularly internally now).

Couple this with the fact it aligns with other information I've seen about Nextbox over the past year, it aligned perfectly. The document also references Microsoft's SmartGlass technology (announced at E3). I went through a number of other ways to verify the information was as accurate as other stories we would report on - I'm not going to outline the exact processes because I like to keep those secret

We make every attempt to ensure this type of data is accurate. I ran a number of stories ahead of this year's E3, and they were all accurate:

Hopefully this clears up any questions over how we vet this type of information. I don't typically report on Xbox or gaming news (its not my core knowledge) but I do enjoy reading Neogaf threads from time to time. You guys have an amazing community here so keep it up

Οποτε απλα μιλαμε για ενα σχετικα παλιο αλλα εγκυρο document. H προσεγγιση που παιρνουν αν και αναμενομενη ειναι σιγουρα ενδιαφερουσα και το Kinect integration ηταν επισης κατι που θα γινοταν. Ο,τι δε σας αρεσει μην το κανετε και θεμα ξανα και ξανα, πλεον και η MS και η Sony πανε για το απολυτο media center γιατι μονο ετσι μεγαλωνεις το user base (το οτι θα ναι καλες κονσολες με δυνατα specs πιστευω πως θεωρειται δεδομενο και πλεον παμε και για παρομοια αρχιτεκτονικη αφου και οι 2 εταιρειες λογικα θα πανε με την AMD/ATI.).

Και μόνο που βλέπω kinect κρατάω μικρό καλάθι, δεν το έχει σε τίποτα η microsoft να μας βομβαρδίσει με βλακείες games πάνω σε kinect.

A 56-page, detailed report, the document lists a 2013 release for Xbox 720 and “Kinect V2,” which it claims is necessary due to the likelihood of declining Xbox 360 sales next year, the launch of “gen 8 consoles” from Sony and Nintendo, and “new threats” from Apple TV and Google TV.

It cites Xbox 360′s limitations as “no full fidelity AAA Games + Kinect V1 sensor,” no support for a full range of XTV platform scenarios, lacking modern entertainment capabilities (“Blu-ray, Native 3D,” and “2x1080p in/out”), and the inability to run “multiplexed or concurrent applications and services.”

As far as what Xbox 720 will include, it says it will boast six times the performance of Xbox 360, and have a “native XTV/video STB,” “V1/V2 Kinect sensor processing,” “connectivity for glassses/sensors/peripherals,” “dedicated resources for next gen gameing,” “dedicated resources for Xbox 360 gaming,” and “true 1080p and full 3D.”

Its expected system cost is approximately $225. Compared to its competition, it expects Nintendo to launch what it labels as “Wii2″ and Sony to launch “PS4″ for “<$249″ and “<$399,” respectively. It aims to make Xbox 720 “the ONLY box you need for premium living room entertainment.”

Kinect V2 is listed as including “improved voice recognition,” “better 3D play space recognition,” “four player concurrent tracking,” “dedicated HW processing,” and “better HD RGB camera.” That’s all in addition to “higher accuracy” and “stereo imaging vs mono.” It will also support four-person play.

Also mentioned in the document is “Fortaleza,” a pair of glasses to launch in 2014 that will allow players to “interact with the world in a revolutionary way.” Listed bulletpoints include:

Xbox 720: Blu-ray inside, always-on netcon required

Xbox 720 has been fully detailed to some third-parties, VG247 has learned, and has been slotted in for a Christmas 2013 release. And yes: of course it’ll have a Blu-ray drive.
VG247 has learned that Microsoft has now detailed Xbox 720 to certain partners and has internally confirmed the machine for a Christmas 2013 release.
The next generation Xbox will have a Blu-ray drive, contrary to a recent report.
Multiple sources have confirmed this morning that the machine will have two GPUs. One said: “It’s like two PCs taped together.”
We’re waiting for final confirmation of specs, but the graphics cards are thought to be equivalent to AMD’s 7000 series GPUs, but “not CrossFire or SLI”. The GPUs aren’t structured as they are in a normal dual PC set-up, in which the two chips take it in turns to draw lines of the same object: Xbox 720′s graphics units will be able to work independently, drawing separate items simultaneously.
It was reported last week that PlayStation 4, internally codenamed Orbis, will also be powered by AMD hardware.
There will be “four or six” cores to the Xbox 720 CPU, one of which will be reserved for Kinect and one for the OS.
Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure.
We’ve also been told that the next generation of Kinect will be built into the device as standard.
The details have emerged in the wake of a hastily removed tweet from Sean Tracy, a technical designer for Crytek, that said he was attending the “Durango summit” in London at the end of February. Durango is though to be the codename for the console.
Microsoft is not expected to announce anything pertaining to its next machine until next year.
Many developers have been posting job openings for “next-gen” and “future-gen” systems for months.
Lionhead and Bethesda are just two of the latest.

Αν η φήμη βγεί αληθινή, τότε θα πατώσει σίγουρα. Θα είναι ένα τεράστιο πλήγμα όχι μόνο για τους συλλέκτες, αλλά και για τους δημιουργούς, επειδή θα είναι μόνο ψηφιακά και μόνο από την ίδια εκδότρια, την Mon€&#165;$o&#163;t. Η αισχροκέρδεια στο μεγαλείο της.
