Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 requires PSN connection (not for co-op, for DRM!)

When Capcom apologized for including anti-sharing DRM in its PSN release of Final Fight: Double Impact, it wasn't because it had a change of heart on the technology – which required players to be signed into PlayStation Network to play the game – but rather because it failed to alert users to its presence.

With yesterday's release of Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 on PSN, the Big C made sure to remedy that shortcoming with the follow notice on the game's listing: "NOTE: You must log-in to the PlayStation Network each time to play the game." While Final Fight: Double Impact could at least boast an online cooperative element (in both its Final Fight and Magic Sword offerings!), Rearmed 2's co-op is an adamantly offline-only affair, like its predecessor. If you've got a religious objection to digital rights management (or a shaky internet connection!) consider yourself warned.

Ξεκίνησε το fail0verflow . Όταν η Sony κάνει χαζομάρες με την ασφάλεια της κονσόλας της και την αφήνει πρακτικά τόσο ανοιχτή όσο και ένας υπολογιστής, οδηγούμαστε σε λύσεις που υιοθετήθηκαν από εταιρείες για τα παιχνίδια σε υπολογιστές. Δεν είναι τόσο τραγικό βέβαια, αλλά πιστεύω ότι χτυπάει πάρα πολύ στο γόητρο της κονσόλας όλη αυτή η κατάσταση.

Μου αρέσει που έβγαλε το "Install other OS" για "security reasons" .

E από ότι φαίνεται όχι. Άσχημη εξέλιξη και ελπίζω να μην ακολουθήσουν πολλοί αυτή τη λογική. Ας βρει η Sony τρόπο να μπλοκάρει τις αντιγραφές στο PSN και ίσως σωθεί η κατάσταση.

Are PS3 Games Getting Serial Numbers? We Sincerely Hope Not

Sony is currently embroiled in a lawsuit against hackers who have managed to completely circumvent the PS3's security system. While that could be bad news for them, there could also be bad news in store for all of us.

According to sources speaking with Dutch site PS3-Sense, Sony is preparing to implement a "serial code" security system for future PS3 game releases. This would operate much in the same way serial codes do for PC titles: each PS3 game would include a long code in the box that would have to be entered in order to play or install a game, and in this case that code could be entered on up to five consoles.


While this may slow pirates down temporarily (as they'll surely find a way around it), it will definitely annoy consumers, not to mention retailers. What would happen to pre-owned game sales? What would happen when games can't be loaned out amongst friends?


Those are two important hurdles lying in the path of any such plan. Contacted for comment, Sony tells Kotaku "We are looking at a few options", but are "not ready to confirm our next steps yet".

Sony is threatening to sue anybody posting or “distributing” the first full-fledged jailbreak code for the 4-year-old PlayStation 3 gaming console.

What’s more, the company is demanding that a federal judge order Google to surrender the IP addresses and other identifying information of those who have viewed or commented about the jailbreak video on a private YouTube page. The game maker is also demanding that Twitter provide the identities of a host of hackers who first unveiled a limited version of the hack in December.
